JAMT Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Writing and Publishing

At Journal of Applied Materials and Technology (JAMT), we uphold a commitment to scholarly integrity and transparent publishing practices. In light of the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly generative language models (LLMs), the following editorial policy outlines our stance on their use:

Author Use of AI Tools
While JAMT recognizes the value of AI in supporting clarity and coherence in academic writing, its use must remain auxiliary. Authors may employ AI-powered tools to refine language or structure, but the intellectual essence of the work must be authored and governed by humans. AI applications do not meet authorship criteria and must not be credited as contributors.
Transparency and Disclosure
If AI tools are used during manuscript preparation, authors are expected to disclose their involvement openly. This includes naming the specific tools and explaining their intended function. Such openness strengthens trust within the academic community and ensures accountability.
Restrictions on AI-Generated Visuals
The use of AI to create or modify images, graphics, or videos is generally prohibited. Exceptions apply only if such modifications are integral to the study’s experimental design. In these cases, authors must provide a clear technical explanation detailing the content affected, the tools employed, the methods used, and the purpose behind the alteration.
Editorial and Review Integrity
Editors and peer reviewers must not utilize AI tools when handling manuscripts submitted to JAMT. The confidentiality, intellectual property, and ethical rigor of the review process must remain fully protected and human-directed.
Human Responsibility as the Core Principle
The foundation of scientific publishing lies in human expertise, ethical judgment, and thoughtful stewardship. AI may assist with certain linguistic tasks, but the responsibility for content creation, review, and final decision-making remains with individuals entrusted to uphold the standards of academic excellence.
